KAYANIS - the artistic biography
| 1982 | Kayanis (aged ten) takes first guitar classes. Later that
year enrols at the State Music School of Slupsk, where the young
artist learns the accoustic bass and the piano. Plays bass guitar and
keyboards with local rock bands.
|
| 1987 | Starts his first, semi-professional band, "Van der Krammer". The group plays quite a number of gigs, however never makes it into a recording studio. Van der Krammer wins second prize at the Warsaw Festival of Science-Fiction music. In 1990 they play a concert in Flensburg, Germany. Just a few weeks later Kayanis decides to leave the band and start his solo career. |
| 1991 | Kayanis sends his first demo material of "Expecations" to the European headquartes of Kawai. As a result he receives some gear and a sponsorship contract. At that time it was practically impossible for a young musician to buy professional equipment in Poland - the price of a synthesizer was equivalent to an average yearly income... |
| 1991 | First solo performance at the Rondo Theatre in Slupsk, Poland. The
concert was a spectacular event: Kayanis's music made a perfect background
for modern ballet performance. The reviews were enthusiastic. One of them
appeared in the KLEM magazine - at that time leading Dutch electronic
music fanzine.
|
| 1993 | Starts his own recording studio, which in fact has already gone out of business. |
| 1994 | An electronic music label "X-Serwis" signs Kayanis and releases his first electronic suite: "Expectations". A few songs appear on "Tangram-Sampler Vol. 1" and "Moogazyn" compilations. |
| 1996-1998 | Joins a pop-rock band Shaxbeer. Plays keyboards and writes all their songs. Meets Andrzej Czajkowski, who is soon to play most guitar parts on "Machines & Dreams", released in December 1998. |
| 1999 | "Machines & Dreams" promotion year. Kayanis
starts his own company, Kayanis Music, which is to look after his
promotional and concert activities. Kayanis for the first time appears on
Polish national TV channels, produces and directs his first video "Arecibo".
Polish Radio 3 plays "Machines and Drams" a lot. "Arecibo"
and "Lost Tribe" reach numbers 7 and 9 respectively
on Jerzego Kordowicz's Top TLEN - an electronic music hit list. Plays a
lot of concerts, including the ZEF festival - at that time the biggest
electronic music festival in Poland.
|
| 2000 | Kayanis tours Poland with his constantly growing band, promoting his next album "Synesthesis", to be released in 2001. Supprots Joachim Roedelius at the International Musical Presentations "Ambient 2000" in Wisla, Poland. Kayanis also becomes the artistic director of the KOMP festival in Kwidzyn - the biggest electronic music festival in Poland (2000 visitors in 2001!). Polish musical press writes a lot about his music. Appears many times at national and local TV and radio stations. At the end of the year starts preparations for his biggest musical project so far: "Synesthesis". |
